Lao Sze Chuan is a szechuan in Evanston, Illinois. It is listed at 720 Clark St, Evanston, IL 60201, which places it among the local businesses of Evanston that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.
In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Evanston; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Illinois are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Evanston is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Evanston follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

When I tell you this is one of the dirtiest restaurants Iβve ever walked into, that is a fact. The staff is nice. But the state of cleanliness of this restaurant is atrocious. Donβt. Just do NOT.

A great place to taste authentic Chinese food and it also provides desserts and drinks. We ordered three dishes for group of two and got a lot of food left, so this place definitely can hold parties of many people. The salted egg shrimp is delicious and we recommend this for sure.

Went here for a group dinner. Had the best Asian food I have tried so far in Evanston! Absolutely mouth watering dishes. I especially loved their chicken dishes which were cooked to perfection. The service is super friendly and the place is very conducive to have small group dinners. I would highly recommend!

Part of a chain but still great for reliable Sichuan cuisine! We came for Lunar New Year, so it was understandably extremely busy, but we got seated quickly since we made a reservation beforehand. The workers were running around since it was so busy but still friendly and happy to help. We tried to get a good variety of dishes: mapo tofu, chefβs special dry chili chicken, boiled sole fish fillet in spicy Szechuan sauce, hot and spicy lamb pot, fried flat noodles, and spicy and sour potatoes. They also had a promotion during the whole month of February that let us get a free serving of soup dumplings for the table! Chinese cuisine is best enjoyed family style so that you can try a bit of everything. Each dish was quite tasty and flavorful. Nothing was especially spicy, but the Sichuan flavors still delivered. The portion sizes were large, and the prices werenβt bad either. Our favorites were the dry chili chicken, which was extra crispy and peppery, and the boiled fish, which was tender and smoky. Overall, Lao Sze Chuan has a huge menu with plenty of variety that will surely leave you satisfied in the New Year!
